      The paintbrush leaves a long trail of gold across the wall.  Another, shorter stroke becomes a gentle ray of sunlight.  Glancing over my shoulder, I watch the setting sun through the open windows behind me.  I study the colors hard, turn back to the wall, and carefully mix just the right shade of orange on the circular board covered in globs of paint that sits at my feet.  Dipping my paintbrush in, I gently paint the tips of the clouds in the rosy hue.       After taking a moment to make sure the pink blends perfectly with the oranges, g

      Most of the train ride is uneventful.  Katniss and I don't get a chance to be alone, but perhaps that's the way she wants it.  I can tell that she is increasingly uncomfortable as we near District 12.  When she returns from a shower with her hair back in its signature braid and wearing plain shirt and pants, I put my arm around her shoulders, but she doesn't seem to take any comfort in it like she did in the arena.  Has that horrible place changed her so much that I can't have her when we get home?  Has she been through too much to trust anyone ever again?&#
